Chevron tRe Plate

I have this kitchen nook where our table is and it has this amazing wall behind it.
I have been slowing trying to make this space cohesive and fun. It's been difficult because we're about to remodel the whole space so we've completely NOT decorated at all in the kitchen and family room. UGH!!!

But, we did a little decorating where the table is (I'll post pics once we complete the space).

Where did I get the idea for the Chevron Monogrammed plate?

I used my Silouette to make the chevrons and monogram.

The Chevrons were made of Vinyl and the Monogram was made of thick Cardstock.

To seal the chevrons and monogram to the plate I used Mod Podge. It's kinda like Elmers glue but thinner consistency. The sponge brush worked PERFECT for application.
I used a $2 white plate from IKEA. I made sure it was clean before applying the chevrons. I didn't do any fancy measurements and just eyeballed the spacing. I see my imperfections, but once it's done...you don't really notice.

Apply a thin layer of your Mod Podge just like Taylor Made says. She didn't apply the Mod Podge on rim of plate, but I went ahead and did.

Lay your Monogram on top of the thin layer. I used a toothpick to make sure the letters were placed right and all the way down onto the plate.

Add another layer of Mod Podge on top of the letters. This time I only added the second layer to center of the plate and not on the rims.
NOW...LET MR. FANCY PLATE DRY!!!

Here you have it! A fancy Chevron "TRE" Monogrammed Plate!!! Even the hubs thinks it's cool...SCORE!
Seriously....20 minute project!!! EASY PEASEY!!!

Once the space is complete, you'll see what I plan to do with this little treasure!

G.I.R.L.

We have a new girl in the family.

I knew I wanted to make something practical, but unique.

I went to one of my FAV fabric stores:

I ordered up some organic cotton...aaahhh...sooo soft!

When I received my new fancy organic cotton fabrics, I went to my fabric cupboard. When I'm at Joann's I always scope out their remnants and get fabric CHEEEAAAPPP!!! I have had some pretty flannels and chenilles hanging out in the cupboard waiting to be loved on.

I finally had the perfect project for them!

Burping Cloths!!!
I've seen friends carry these burping cloths and randomly online. Easy enough and SUPER practical!

Oh I am IN L.O.V.E with these prints!!!

A pretty and unique practical baby gift!!!

Who's the baby Girl???

You'll find out later....stay tuned!

This Little Light of Mine

One song I remember so clearly from growing up is, This Little Light of Mine.

I remember singing this in Sabbath School, pretending my "mr. pointer" (aka index finger) was a candle, and not letting it be blown out by the devil.

Emily Jones Design Company has the cutest art prints HERE

Several months ago I fell in love with this print because it reminded me of Sabbath School, how we need to be who God intended us to be, and share the Good News with others.

Matthew 5:14-16

"You are 'the light' of the world. A city set on a hill can not be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp, and put it under a peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

This color goes well with our laundry room and I thought this would make a nice reminder when leaving our home to reflect one.

Next to our laundry room garage door we have this laughter print hanging. It's really cute, but not totally the style of the room. I FINALLY picked up a frame from Home Goods!!! Took long enough eh?!?!

Insert new art print to view just as we're leaving our home to go out into the world! I love it!

Emily has a lot of other FAB prints and you should get yourself over to her shop to take a peek!!!

I have one more to give a home......

Fruits of the Spirit....kitchen eh?

When In Rome

What does that post title have anything to do with what I am about to post????

Rome = Roman
Roman = Blinds

But what does Roman have to do with Blinds??? Yea, I don't know either. Probably should google that.

LOL

So I have this window in our laundry room. I don't want to name names, BUT we have this very evil sweet  kitten who "MIGHT" have attacked our blinds and destroyed them.

Don't Judge, but this is how I've been using the blinds...totally sophisticated!!!
That's a high end chip clip I'll have you know!!! And the strings hanging (hard to see), I'd like to call that an embellishment. No, they are NOT broken strings which once helped move the blind up and down!!! Ok...maybe.

I am totally IN LOVE with fabric roman blinds.

And I love fabric!

I once had custom window treatments priced...UM...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

So, I have decided to take a shot at making them myself.

I've had this fantastic fabric for a couple months now...
Yes a couple months.
I'm COMPLETELY intimidated by the project. I found this, what is said to be "easy", tutorial and am just waiting till I have the nerve to give it a try.

Any tips out there to help a chip clipped windowed girl???

Shoo Bugs Shoo!!!

In Florida spring and summer means GINORMOUS bugs!!!

Typically I would run to Target and immediately buy lots of raid citronella candles or sprays. Or else perish to the wrath of the GIANT Florida mosquitos!!! No fun!!!

This year, I decided on a something a little more fun than the basic citronella candle.

I began saving all our pasta, greek pepper or pickle jars.

I spray painted them with this:

I painted several coats and though they did not come out as perfect as the tutorial, well, I thought they were still cute! Let them dry over night.

I created a "R" template on thicker cardstock by free hand. Then I traced my template on scrapbook paper and glued them to the painted jars.
NOTE: You can find special glue for glass surfaces.
I bought soy wax (buy the big bag for more than one candle...YOU'LL NEED IT!!!), citronella essential oil from local health foods store, and candle wicks from Michael's.

To get your color, just shave some crayons and add till you get the color you want.
Take an old coffee can tin, fill with wax shreds, crayola shavings, and place in boiling water. I found that stirring frequently helped melt faster.
Once your wax is completely melted add just 3-4 drops of your citronella oil.

IMPORTANT: If you add too much oil, it will separate from your wax...NO BUENO!!!

I poured my wax outside on sidewalk into my jars with a wick held in place. The tutorial I used had something more "candle professional" to hold the wicks in place, but I didn't have that so I used my nursing hemostats!!! LOL

Yep, that's the ER nurse in me coming out...IMPROVISE!!!

I placed the candles in the fridge to cool off and solidify over night.

VOILA!!

Homemade citronella candle!!!

The other colors are cooling now.

I will show those once done!

Done!

Sigh....the green one at far right is way TOOOOO light green.

Do you want to try too???

Swing over to

Hers are WAY better, but I had fun making my very first citronella candles at

the REINER CASA!!!

SHIVER ME TIMBERS!!!

As some know, I've been in bed for a few days feeling under the weather. I've been crafting overtime because....

A. Housebound
B. BORED OUT OF MY GOURD!!!!
C. Lets be honest...THIS IS PLAIN FUN!!!
D. Lots of birthdays/holidays and I'M BORED

So, I love LIL BLUE BOO!!!

And....felt like I needed a new cute weekend shirt.
Don't judge that my hair is drab and no mascara!!! Remember, I've been housebound!!! I do promise it's clean though!!! haha!

Tim's a big fan of the Tampa Buccs and is SOOOO stoked that they got some good draft picks this year. So why not a little pirate graphic t-shirt!?!?! I've also been having to spend A LOT of time in Tampa for work...so I mean, this just fit!

What do you think? In as much time as it takes to heat up an iron and print out a graphic...that's it! Voila, in 5 minutes a NEW TSHIRT!

A-HOY MATE!!!

Check out Lil Blue Boo's tutorial and her other AWESOME graphics free HERE

Sailors and Diamonds!

Orrrrr.....glass beads! LOL
What could this be? Somewhat nautical. Somewhat sparkly.
Hmmmm???

So if you guessed a necklace, WELL, you ARE CORRECT!!!

Well, Tatertots and Jello is QUICKLY becoming a FAVORITE blog of mine!!!

I whipped this little guy up last night as a cute addition for my outfit today at work. Total cost?
 UNDER $10!!!

Total Time?
20 minutes-ish
I really need to stop with the cell phone photos...BUT, they make it soooo easy with uploading to Picasa vs a regular camera. Anyway, pardon the quality.

How did I make this gem???

Swing over to TT&J for the tutorial!!!

TIP: One thing I did add that the tutorial didn't suggest was some Fray Check glue to the unfinished fabric edges. It keeps the rustic feel without the actual fraying of fabric onto your clothes.

Happy Sailing this weekend!!!

XOXO
